All new staff complete a 6 month (extendable) probationary period. During this time they undergo a thorough induction program. New staff complete the LDQ – Learning Disabilities Qualification. On successful completion of the probationary period opportunities are given for enrolment on the NVQ Care Award Scheme.
During the probation period a system of “buddying” is used with new staff where they work alongside a more experienced member of staff for at least 2 months before working independently. No new staff member would ever support a service user with their personal care needs until they had been employed for at least 2 months and had established a relationship and knowledge of the people they are supporting. A form relating to confidentiality is also completed and signed by the staff member and witnessed by a senior member of the team.

Staff are formally appraised annually and have a training needs analysis completed. In November 2005 we were awarded the Investors in People Award.
